The jobs on fire, and where the market is hottest

17 FEBRUARY 2025

Fastest-growing jobs in Sweden 2025

We often talk about which jobs are disappearing. But let’s flip it around: which roles are growing fastest, and where? LinkedIn’s Jobs on the Rise 2025 lists the fastest-growing jobs in Sweden, and the Swedish Public Employment Service’s report Arbetsmarknadsläget i Sverige shows the state of the job market. Combined, they give us some answers on how to think, and perhaps where it is strategic to settle.

Technology, sustainability and AI: three trends on top

Technological development:

Digitalisation affects almost every job. You don’t have to be a hacker in a hoodie, but even plumbers now need to handle apps, and waiters scroll through orders faster than you can google “How do you actually pronounce Worcestershire?”.

Top 3 titles:

  1. Platform Engineer
  2. Data Centre Technician
  3. Cyber Security Engineer

Sustainability:

Many (good) companies think so green that the office plants get performance anxiety. Great for the world, and it also means many more jobs in green energy, ESG and other ways of making the world a little healthier.

Top 3 titles:

  1. Planning Engineer
  2. Strategic Sourcing Manager
  3. Automation Technician

AI:

No, it won’t take over the world (yet), but the AI wave will probably change working life at least as much as the internet has over the past 25 years. It already affects everything from customer service and marketing to engineering and healthcare. With automation and data analysis at the centre, we need people who not only develop AI but also know how to hold the reins.

Top 3 titles:

  1. Artificial Intelligence Engineer
  2. Machine Learning Engineer
  3. Information Security Officer

Where jobs are heading in different directions

The job market is like April weather: strong low pressure in some areas, while others bask in high pressure and sunny forecasts. In the north there is a tailwind of new jobs, while further south clouds of competition and lingering unemployment can be seen. Hold on to your hat, the weather can change quickly!

  • Northern Sweden: Boom! Industrial investments in fossil-free steel, battery factories and electrification of transport have created an influx of jobs in technology, logistics and engineering. Luleå and Skellefteå stand out as growth hubs, and these investments have created marked job growth and made the region one of the most dynamic right now.
  • Stockholm: AI, data analysis and recruitment are at the centre. Companies compete for tech talent, but competition for jobs is tough. With many qualified applicants, you need to stand out, and to realise there are more options than the capital.
  • West Sweden: Gothenburg keeps growing as a centre for vehicle electrification and green innovation. Demand for engineers and production staff is high, while the region’s startup scene is gaining momentum.
  • Skåne: High unemployment, but at the same time strong demand for tech and healthcare staff. Malmö and Lund continue to attract tech companies, and healthcare has a constant need for skills.
  • Central Sweden: Industry and logistics play a central role here, especially around Västerås and Örebro. Automation drives the need for both technicians and system developers.

The job market of the future: opportunities and challenges

The job market is constantly in flux, and both talent and employers need to stay on their toes. Technological development is changing how we work, the sustainability transition is creating new industries, and AI is affecting everything from decision-making to production. It is more important than ever to create an environment that cares for and invests in its workforce, to keep valuable talent. At the same time, job seekers need to broaden their horizons and look out for warmer latitudes in the market.

And speaking of latitudes, geography plays an ever bigger role. Tech and finance in Stockholm, industry and automotive in Gothenburg, and, well, not much in Malmö… The big cities have their own niches, but several smaller towns are also stepping up to compete for workers. For those open to change, there are opportunities, whether that means switching industries, retraining or moving somewhere with greater demand for your skills.

Whatever happens, one thing is true: you need to follow developments, do your best to understand the changes and be ready to adapt. For those who do, a job market full of new opportunities awaits, and perhaps a career path you had never even considered.
